Ethnicity is represented when the director uses the editing techniques shot reverse shot. This is used to show a conversation between two people where the shot goes from one person to the next then goes back to the person it started with. this is reprsented in the scene where the black guy and the white guy was having a diagetic dialogue where the shot started with the white guy. This connotes that the white hut is superior to the black guy as the shot started with him. The scene represents a typical reprsentation of a white guy as they are usually more dominant than black people. Ethnicity is also represented through shot reverse shot again with the mix raced girl and the black guy when she was opening the door where the mixed race girl was dominating the shot which shows she is superior to the black guy.The pace of the clip is used to reprsent the different ethnic group. Pace refers to how long or short a clip stays onscreen for. This is represented through the scene where the black guy was having a diagetic dialogue between the black guy as there is longer pace on the black. Here the black gut is subverting from a typical representation of a black guy as we don't usually expect a black guy to have a longer pace than the white guy. Ethnicity is represented through the editing technique of match on action. This is when the action is shown from different camera angles. This is evedent in the scene where the girl is opening the door to see who was there. This connotes she is superior as it allows us to focus on her as we are following her action.
Ethnicity is reprsented by the use of cinematagrapy when the director uses the rule of third. This is when the shot is divided in threes which allows us to focus on wht's in the center. This is shown in the scene where the black guy and mixed race girl was looking at each other in the shot reverse shot where the black guy dominants his shots as he was more in the center of his shots than the mixed race girl.
Mise en scene is used to represent the different ethnic group when the director uses Props. These are anything that the director uses on set. This is shown in the scene where the black guy was exchanging drugs or ganja for money. This represents that he is from a ethnic background as it is a sterotypical representation of a young black guy as they are ecpected be be in the business of drug dealing. The use of props also shows ethnic group through custome. These are clothing that characters wear. This is evident with the black guy in a yellow hoody which is a typical representation of a young black guy as they usually wear hoodies which he is conforming to a typical representation.
Ethnicity is represented through sound by the use of the diagetic dialogue. This is a conversaation between two or more people. This is evident in the scene with the black guy and white guy where the black guy was talking more than the white guy. Here the black guy is subverting from a typical representation as we dont expect to be more talkative than the white guy because the white guy is expected to be more educated than the black guy. However we can say that he is conforming because of his language when he says blood which is how a typical reprsentation of how a young black guy talks.

Kem, a good attempt. You are using good evidence and show a clear understanding of the analysis but your structure and phrasing isn't quite right. Sometimes you forget to explain whether it subverts or conforms and you need to give more detail, and be more specific in your analysis - why would we expect the white guy to be better educated? Does more talkative mean more educated...could be nervous because he is less dominant and the white man is in control?
ReplyDeleteAlso you do not need to explain the meaning of words - it is great you understand them! But by identifying them it shows you understand so don't waste time explaining. When talking about pace, refer to long and short takes for terminology marks. A good try - keep practicing!
